Ekiti 2026: Afuye Backs Oyebanji for Continuity, Cites Experience as Key to Stability

EKITI 2026

As political activities gain momentum ahead of the June 20, 2026, governorship election in Ekiti State, Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye has passionately thrown her weight behind her principal, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, insisting that his re-election is critical for sustained progress in the state.

With a bold declaration, Afuye emphasized that Oyebanji is the best choice for Ekiti and should continue in office until 2030.

Speaking at Aramoko and Ado-Ekiti, the administrative centers of Ekiti West and Ado Local Governments, Afuye made her position known during the concluding session of a women’s mobilization tour spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji.

The tour aimed to rally female support for the governor’s re-election bid, signaling a strong push by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consolidate its grassroots network.

“A Governor Tested and Trusted,” Says Afuye

In her remarks, Afuye warned against electing a political novice to lead the state at such a critical period, noting that Ekiti cannot afford a “trial and error” experiment. According to her, Oyebanji has proven his worth as a capable, experienced administrator who has delivered solid governance over the past three years.

“You have tested Governor Oyebanji and found him suitable as a Governor. He has done excellently well in the last three years. You know that if given a second term, he will do more. I want you to double your votes for him,” she urged party supporters.

Afuye played up local sentiment, reminding the crowd of their familial ties to the governor and First Lady. She stressed that Oyebanji, hailing from Ekiti West, and his wife from Ado Ekiti, represent a homegrown leadership that understands the state’s unique needs and aspirations.

“Our governor hails from Ekiti West and the First Lady is from Ado-Ekiti. He is your son. I know you won’t let him down. As you won’t let him down, he too will not disappoint you, be rest assured about this,” she stated confidently.

The Deputy Governor also made a case for the governor’s inclusivity in governance. She assured party members that the next phase of Oyebanji’s administration, if granted a second term, would prioritize broader participation and increased benefits for all, particularly women.

Tensions Mount In Ekiti APC Over Early Endorsement Of Governor Oyebanji For Second Term

Women’s Empowerment and Political Growth Under Oyebanji

Highlighting the administration’s record on gender inclusion, Afuye reiterated the governor’s commitment to enhancing the role of women in political and administrative spaces. She noted that the governor is counting heavily on women for support in the forthcoming party primary, adding that more leadership opportunities will be allotted to them in his second term.

Complementing this stance, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Habibat Adubiaro, praised Oyebanji for empowering women to ascend politically and administratively. She pointed out a significant milestone, to include, “Ekiti State, under Oyebanji, is the only state in the country with six women legislators in the House of Assembly.”

The impact of Oyebanji’s leadership on the female population was also echoed by Mrs. Caroline Eegunlusi, APC Women Leader, and Mrs. Ronke Okusanya, Chairperson of the Ekiti APC Women Council. Both women affirmed that Ekiti women have witnessed meaningful development and democratic dividends during Oyebanji’s administration.

“We have seen the difference, and we know the value of consistent and purposeful leadership. Our women have been uplifted, and we will stand by the governor,” said Okusanya.

Adding his voice to the advocacy for continuity, Chief Jide Awe, Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor, called on party members, especially women, to maintain unwavering support for Oyebanji. He described the governor as a passionate leader who has consistently delivered the best outcomes for the people of Ekiti State.

A Push for Stability and Proven Leadership

As the political climate heats up, Afuye’s endorsement signals the start of a determined campaign to ensure that Oyebanji secures the APC ticket and eventually, a second term. The tone of the mobilization drive, emphasizing trust, experience, and continuity, suggests that the APC is positioning stability and proven leadership as its core campaign themes.

While opposition forces are yet to solidify their strategies, the unified front displayed by APC leaders and grassroots women may play a decisive role in the months ahead. For now, the call from Afuye is clear: Ekiti must stick with what works.
