The Federal Government has flagged off the construction of the 125-kilometre Akwanga–Jos Superhighway, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation, boosting economic activities and enhancing connectivity between Nigeria’s North-Central states.

The project forms part of the Federal Government’s broader agenda to modernise the country’s road network and stimulate economic development through improved transport infrastructure.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, government officials described the superhighway as a strategic investment that will ease the movement of people and goods while reducing travel time between Nasarawa and Plateau states.

The highway is expected to improve access for businesses, strengthen regional trade and support agricultural activities by providing a more efficient transport corridor for farmers and commercial operators.

The government noted that the project aligns with its commitment to delivering critical infrastructure capable of driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities and attracting private investment.

According to officials, the road will be constructed to modern highway standards with safety features designed to improve travel efficiency and reduce accidents along the corridor.

They added that the superhighway would also serve as an important link connecting several communities and commercial centres, making transportation faster and more reliable for commuters and businesses.

The Federal Government assured residents that adequate measures would be put in place to ensure timely completion of the project while maintaining quality standards throughout the construction period.

Officials further stated that the project is expected to generate employment opportunities during both the construction phase and after completion through increased commercial activities along the route.

The Akwanga–Jos Superhighway is one of several ongoing road projects under the Federal Government’s infrastructure development programme aimed at improving connectivity across the country and supporting long-term economic transformation.

The government reiterated its commitment to expanding Nigeria’s transport network through strategic investments that enhance mobility, promote regional integration and contribute to sustainable national development.
