The Federal Government has announced plans to demolish the damaged portions of the Iddo Bridge in Lagos next week as part of efforts to reconstruct the key infrastructure. The bridge, a vital artery connecting several parts of Lagos, has been in a state of disrepair, raising concerns over safety and traffic flow.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed the plan on Monday, explaining that the demolition is necessary to remove structurally compromised sections before reconstruction can begin. He emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring the long-term durability and safety of the bridge for commuters and commercial vehicles alike.

Officials said that comprehensive traffic management strategies will be implemented during the demolition and reconstruction period to minimize inconvenience to motorists. Alternative routes and signage will be provided to guide road users, while security personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth operations.
Umahi assured Lagos residents that the government is committed to completing the reconstruction as quickly as possible, stressing that the project is part of broader efforts to improve the state’s road infrastructure. He called on the public to exercise patience and cooperate with authorities during the construction works.
