The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that a minor fire incident at the Idu Train Station in Abuja did not disrupt operations on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the station’s low-voltage electrical room and was quickly contained by maintenance personnel.

NRC Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said an initial inspection showed that some electrical supply cables connected to control panels were damaged in the incident.

He, however, said the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected by the fire.

According to Unyimadu, temporary power was restored to the station’s lifts and escalators, with five of the six facilities operational as of Thursday.

He assured passengers that the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service remained operational and would continue to run according to its scheduled timetable.

“The technical team is conducting further assessment to determine the cause of the fault and permanently restore the affected installations,” Unyimadu said.

AEDC Assists With Technical Assessment

The NRC spokesperson said the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had been notified of the incident and would provide technical support as investigations continued.

He explained that further assessments were being conducted to establish the exact cause of the electrical fault and ensure that all affected installations were fully restored.

The NRC’s clarification is expected to ease concerns among passengers following the incident, as the corporation maintained that train operations were not affected by the fire.

The corporation said it would continue to monitor the affected electrical installations while technical teams work towards completing the restoration.
