Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has stated that it will be almost impossible for any Nigerian governor to oppose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027. The bold declaration came on Monday at the opening session of a two-day interactive meeting on government-citizen engagement hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) at the historic Arewa House in Kaduna.

Governor Sani emphasized that no president in Nigeria’s democratic history has supported governors and sub-national administrations as robustly as Tinubu. According to him, this unprecedented support has strengthened federal-state relations and made Tinubu’s political position exceptionally stable.

“Moreover, no president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing,” Sani said. “As a result, it is unlikely that any governor in Nigeria would go against the president.”

Sani’s remarks come at a time when President Tinubu is approaching the midpoint of his first term, and speculation around the 2027 presidential election is gradually building. Political analysts interpret Sani’s endorsement as an early sign of Tinubu’s firm grip on intergovernmental alliances, especially in the northern region where electoral influence is critical.

The Kaduna governor also pointed out that Tinubu’s administration has adopted a groundbreaking strategy by engaging non-state actors in the North—an approach he described as unprecedented. “For the first time in Nigeria’s history, the government is engaging with non-state actors to discuss progress and assess the situation in northern Nigeria,” Sani noted. “This reflects a significant shift in how national issues are being addressed.”

The outreach to non-state actors, including religious leaders, community influencers, and even former insurgents, is seen as part of Tinubu’s broader effort to stabilize volatile regions through dialogue rather than relying solely on military solutions.

Northern Voices Meet at Arewa House

The forum, themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity,” was organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, a non-political and non-religious body established in 2009 to preserve the legacy of the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

The event brought together high-level participants from across Nigeria’s 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. Among them were former governors, traditional rulers, civil society leaders, technocrats, and political stakeholders.

President Tinubu was represented at the event by Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. Their presence underscored the federal government’s commitment to bridging the gap between leadership and the electorate.

In his address, Abdulrazaq reiterated the Tinubu administration’s dedication to fulfilling its campaign promises, especially in areas of economic recovery, national security, and infrastructure development. He also applauded the SABMF for facilitating honest dialogue between citizens and the government.

Assessing Tinubu’s Performance and Northern Sentiment

While the interactive session was designed to evaluate Tinubu’s fulfillment of electoral promises, it quickly evolved into a platform where regional stakeholders expressed support for his governance model. Uba Sani’s declaration, in particular, reinforced the perception that the North may continue to serve as a political stronghold for Tinubu in 2027.

Observers say the president’s approach to inclusive governance and his strategy of empowering state governments through policy collaboration have made him a favorite among many governors.

Still, some participants at the event noted the need for more measurable progress in security, education, and poverty reduction in the North. There were also quiet concerns raised about whether the government can maintain a delicate balance between appeasing non-state actors and upholding state authority.

Despite these concerns, the tone of the forum remained largely supportive of the administration. Many attendees expressed optimism that the collaborative momentum between federal and state governments, if sustained, could redefine national governance and political stability ahead of the next election cycle.

As the interactive session continues, political insiders are closely watching for additional statements that may reveal the North’s strategic posture ahead of 2027. For now, Governor Uba Sani’s resounding endorsement of President Tinubu has sent a clear message: the road to the next presidential election may already be tilting in Tinubu’s favor—with key governors firmly behind him.
