Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Wing in the South East have rejected the appointment of Obinna Ihedioha as an Executive Director of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) by President Bola Tinubu, describing the decision as unfair and provocative.

The youths said the appointment sidelines loyal APC members in the region and instead rewards individuals they consider aligned with opposition parties. Their reaction followed the announcement that Obinna Ihedioha, brother of former Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha and a known figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was appointed Executive Director for People, Stakeholders and Communication at the NRS, representing the South East.

In a statement issued by the APC Igbo Youth Forum and signed by its National Coordinator, Chukwuemeka Chidi, the group accused the Federal Government of ignoring party members who worked for the APC during the 2023 general elections. They alleged that Obinna Ihedioha supported Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the last presidential election and maintained ties with opposition political blocs.

The group questioned his suitability for a sensitive role in a national revenue agency, particularly one involving people management and public communication. According to them, placing an alleged opposition supporter in such a position raises concerns about loyalty and internal security. They warned that the appointment could discourage grassroots participation and weaken party discipline in the South East.

The youths threatened to stage protests nationwide if the appointment is not reviewed and urged President Tinubu to withdraw it in favour of a candidate with a clear record of loyalty to the APC. They also called on the party’s national leadership to intervene and protect the interests of APC supporters in the region.
