He challenged Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable for their promises, saying he would not remain in government if the administration failed to deliver the expected changes within its first year in office.
“If Nigeria doesn’t change one year after we get to office, I’ll resign,” Amaechi said.
The former governor did not, in the statement supplied, specify the particular indicators or benchmarks that would be used to determine whether the country had changed within the one-year period.
His comments come as political parties and political coalitions intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with competing groups presenting different proposals on the economy, security, governance and social welfare.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has positioned itself as one of the political platforms seeking to challenge the existing political order ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amaechi, who previously served as Minister of Transportation and Governor of Rivers State, is part of the ADC’s presidential ticket as its vice-presidential candidate.
