Oyabiyi, a 46-year-old health worker, was killed by suspected kidnappers on Tuesday evening while driving home near the airport in Ondo State’s Akure North Local Government Area. This area has seen a recent uptick in violent activities, including the abduction of two farmers just last week.
According to sources, the attack happened around 8pm when Oyabiyi was ambushed by individuals believed to be bandits. The assailants reportedly emerged from nearby bushes, attempted to kidnap him, but ended up shooting him in the belly, leading to his death shortly thereafter.
Funmilayo Odunlami, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, has confirmed this incident, indicating that an investigation is now underway to address this crime and to ensure the safety of the community. This event underscores the ongoing challenges with security and the urgent need for effective measures to combat such criminal activities in the region.
