The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has called for greater transparency in Nigeria’s petroleum industry, insisting that the country’s crude oil resources must provide direct and measurable benefits to Nigerians.

Makinde made the call at the commissioning of the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja.

He advocated complete transparency across the petroleum value chain, covering crude oil production, domestic crude allocation, refining, transportation, distribution, taxation and retail margins.

The APM presidential candidate said Nigerians’ benefits from the nation’s crude resources should be incorporated into the system from the outset, particularly through the price at which crude is supplied for domestic refining, rather than through what he described as opaque interventions at the petrol pump after costs and inefficiencies had accumulated.

Makinde said his “Reset Nigeria” agenda was focused on ending opaque systems, improving accountability and restoring public trust in government.

According to him, government must be transparent about its decisions and the management of national resources.

The Oyo State Governor also urged Nigerians to participate actively in the Reset Nigeria movement, saying the initiative should extend beyond politicians to ordinary citizens across homes, markets, schools, offices, farms, factories and communities.

He said the campaign would provide a platform for Nigerians to express concerns over rising transportation costs, agricultural challenges, increasing business expenses and the difficulties confronting young people seeking better opportunities.

Makinde assured Nigerians that the campaign office would remain open to those who believe the country could be better governed, urging them to join the movement.

Earlier, the National Leader of the APM and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, endorsed Makinde’s leadership capacity and economic vision.

He said the Abuja campaign office, which he noted was provided solely by Makinde, demonstrated the presidential candidate’s seriousness and preparedness for the national assignment ahead.

The APM National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Dantalle, described the Reset Nigeria project as an effort to rescue the country from what he called a drift in governance.

Dantalle said the party was building a political platform where competence, rather than ethnicity or religion, would determine leadership.

He attributed the large turnout at the event to Nigerians’ desire for a new political direction, describing the campaign headquarters as the “engine room” of the party’s victory in the 2027 elections.

The APM chairman also said the party had fielded credible candidates across the country, expressing confidence that the Makinde/Daura ticket would deliver improved governance, national security, economic prosperity and socio-religious harmony.

He assured Nigerians that Makinde would be a president for all, citing his performance as governor of Oyo State.

In a goodwill message, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, said Makinde was qualified to serve as President of Nigeria.

Obi said his attendance at the event demonstrated that belonging to different political parties should not make politicians enemies, adding that opposition parties could work together to achieve a better Nigeria.

Similarly, the Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Governor of Niger State, Dr Aliyu Babangida, called on opposition parties to collaborate towards rescuing the country.

He disclosed that opposition parties were working towards supporting a single presidential candidate, adding that discussions would focus on a candidate from Southern Nigeria on the grounds that the North had already had eight years in power.

The event was attended by the APM Vice-Presidential candidate, Alhaji Lawal Daura; former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; national and state legislators; members of the APM Board of Trustees and National Working Committee, as well as other party leaders and supporters.
