Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticised the governorship manifesto presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, ahead of the 2027 governorship election, describing it as a collection of recycled promises lacking fresh ideas. Makinde argued that the document failed to offer innovative solutions to the challenges facing the state.

The governor, who is also identified in the report as a 2027 presidential candidate of the Allied Progressives Movement (APM), said most of the proposals contained in Alli’s manifesto were already part of the programmes and projects being implemented by his administration. He questioned the originality of the APC candidate’s plans, insisting that they did not demonstrate a clear departure from existing government policies.

Makinde’s position was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, following the presentation of Alli’s manifesto. The governor faulted the document for failing to address the realities of governance in Oyo State, arguing that the APC candidate should have focused on presenting practical alternatives rather than repeating promises already being pursued by the incumbent administration.

He further challenged Alli to demonstrate how he intended to improve governance and build on the achievements of the current government. According to Makinde, anyone seeking to govern a state as important as Oyo should present concrete policies, original thinking and a clear understanding of the people’s needs rather than relying on campaign rhetoric.

Describing the manifesto as lacking innovation, Makinde said: “In the end, the document is rich in rhetoric but poor in innovation, heavy on promises but light on original thinking. And for a candidate seeking to lead one of Nigeria’s most important states, that is a serious cause for concern.”
