Trump Congratulates Democrats After Reported Midterm Election Victories, Rejects Claims of Personal Defeat

United States President Donald Trump has congratulated the Democratic Party following its reported victories in the November 3 midterm elections, which saw Democrats gain control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, dealing significant electoral setbacks to Republicans.

Trump made the remarks during a telephone interview with Fox News, where he acknowledged the Democrats’ performance but rejected suggestions that the Republican Party’s losses represented a rejection of his leadership. He maintained that his administration had recorded remarkable achievements despite the disappointing election results.

Congratulating the opposition party, Trump said: “Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job. They’ve been looking for this one for 11 years, and they finally got it. But I don’t view it as a hit on me. I think we’ve done … We’ve had the greatest two years in the history of the presidency.”

The US president argued that the outcome should not be interpreted as a personal political defeat, pointing out that he was not a candidate in the congressional elections. He also suggested that Republicans would have performed significantly better if his name had appeared on the ballot, while attributing some of the party’s difficulties to rising prices linked to the conflict involving Iran.

The midterm campaigns were dominated by concerns over the American economy, increasing fuel costs and the Trump administration’s handling of the war in Iran. The reported Democratic victories represent a major shift in the balance of power in Congress and could create additional political challenges for Trump’s administration as Democrats gain greater influence over legislative activities and congressional oversight.
