Man arraigned in court over fake news allegation

Monisola Adebayo, 28, has been charged with spreading fake information online and is being held in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan.

Adebayo is charged with three counts that include conspiracy, defamation, and publishing false information. Adebayo entered a not guilty plea to the allegations.

“The defendant committed the offenses in 2024 at the Eleyele area of Ibadan,” the prosecution, Insp. Olagoke Adegbenro, stated.

According to Adegbenro, Adebayo colluded with others to disseminate untrue information that disparaged Mrs. Alice Oyinlola’s reputation.

“The defendant posted undue comments online, exposing Oyinlola to hatred, contempt, and ridicule,” the prosecutor said.According to Adegbenro, “the offenses violate sections 59, 375, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.”

The defendant was given N50,000 bail by Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, along with two sureties in an equivalent amount.

The hearing for the matter was postponed until April 21.
