NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The recovery is expected to provide investigators with important information as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the aircraft crash.

NAF Recovers Part Of Flight Data Recorder

Ejodame said recovery teams had also retrieved part of the aircraft’s Flight Data Recorder (FDR), commonly referred to as the black box.

However, he explained that the remaining portion of the recorder was still missing, with search operations continuing in the difficult swampy terrain.

According to him, additional aircraft wreckage and engine components had also been recovered.

“Additional aircraft wreckage, engine components and human remains have also been recovered,” he said.

The NAF spokesman noted that the recovery operation was being conducted carefully because of the challenging conditions at the crash site.

Recovery Teams Continue Search In Swampy Terrain

Ejodame said NAF and NSIB technical personnel were working together to retrieve the remaining aircraft components required for further examination.

He explained that the swampy nature of the crash location had made the operation difficult, requiring careful coordination and handling of recovered materials.

The recovered cockpit voice recorder and the available portion of the flight data recorder are expected to form part of the technical investigation into the accident.

The two recording systems serve different purposes: the cockpit voice recorder captures cockpit audio, while the flight data recorder stores information about the aircraft’s performance and flight parameters.

NAF Begins Identification Process For Recovered Human Remains

The Air Force also disclosed that human remains recovered from the crash site were being handled through established identification procedures.

Ejodame said the Directorate of Identification and Classification was responsible for carrying out the necessary processes.

He added that the NAF had maintained contact with the families of the victims and was engaging relevant authorities over environmental concerns raised by the host community.

The service appealed for patience, explaining that the recovery and identification processes required time and careful coordination.

Air Force Promises Updates As Investigation Continues

The NAF said the objective of the recovery operation and subsequent investigation was not limited to determining how the aircraft crashed.

According to Ejodame, the findings would also help the service identify lessons that could improve aviation safety and protect personnel and civilians.

“The ultimate objective is not only to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident but also to draw the necessary lessons to strengthen flight safety, enhance ongoing airpower operations and further safeguard the lives of personnel and citizens,” he said.

The Air Force assured the public that it would continue to provide verified information as recovery operations and investigations progress.
