NSCDC Disciplines 66 Officers Nationwide Over Misconduct, Alleged Arms Dealing

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disciplined 66 personnel across its commands nationwide over various acts of misconduct, including alleged involvement in arms dealing.

The Commandant General of the corps, Ahmed Audi, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday.

Audi said the affected personnel received different disciplinary sanctions based on the nature and severity of the offences established during investigations.

The sanctions included dismissal, compulsory retirement, demotion and official warnings.

NSCDC Explains Disciplinary Actions Against Officers

According to Audi, the disciplinary measures followed investigations into allegations of misconduct against the affected personnel.

He explained that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) approved the sanctions after the relevant disciplinary procedures had been completed.

The Commandant General said the officers were subjected to established internal processes, including orderly room trials and investigations by relevant staff disciplinary committees.

He stressed that the corps would not tolerate misconduct capable of undermining its reputation and operational effectiveness.

Some Officers To Face Prosecution

Audi disclosed that some of the affected personnel would face prosecution over the alleged offences, while others had already been dismissed following legal proceedings.

He said the decision to prosecute depended on the nature, seriousness and circumstances of each offence.

“Some of them are to face prosecution while some had been dismissed after facing prosecution. They will be prosecuted because of the veracity of the offence, level and kind of offence they have committed,” he said.

The NSCDC chief maintained that disciplinary decisions were reached after the officers had been subjected to the appropriate procedures.

NSCDC Chief Emphasises Discipline In Paramilitary Service

Audi described discipline as a fundamental requirement for the effective operation of military and paramilitary organisations.

“The culture of any military or paramilitary organisation stands or is built on discipline,” he said.

He indicated that maintaining discipline within the corps was necessary to strengthen accountability and ensure that personnel carried out their responsibilities professionally.

The disciplinary action against the 66 personnel underscores the NSCDC leadership’s position that officers found culpable of misconduct would face appropriate sanctions.
