The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has declared that the party has resolved its internal issues and is now fully focused on winning the 2027 general election.

Dickson made the statement on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, while discussing the relationship between the political support groups associated with the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The former Bayelsa State governor said the NDC had concluded its internal process by selecting its candidates, adding that the party’s priority was now to take its campaign to Nigerians and secure victory at the polls.

He called on supporters of the Obidient movement and Kwankwasiyya to unite around the common objective of winning the election rather than allowing differences between the groups to distract from the party’s campaign.

Dickson, however, clarified that he does not belong to either political support group, stressing that his loyalty is to the NDC.

“I’m not a member of Kwankwasiyya. I’m not a member of Obedient. I am NDC,” Dickson said.

He acknowledged that both the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient groups have their own identities and are entitled to operate independently under the law.

However, he stressed that the leaders of the two political movements are now the NDC’s presidential candidate and running mate for the 2027 election.

“Kwankwasiyya has a right to be on its own under the constitution, and same for the Obedient group. Their principals are our candidates, presidential candidate and running-mate,” he said.

‘No Internal Battles to Fight’

Dickson said the NDC had moved beyond the stage of internal political disagreements, following the conclusion of its candidate selection process.

According to him, the next challenge for the party is to build a strong campaign capable of delivering victory in the 2027 election.

“There are no internal battles to fight in the NDC. We have decided candidature. The next stage of the battle, strategically, is to win the election,” he stated.

He said the various groups supporting Obi and Kwankwaso should therefore concentrate on mobilising Nigerians rather than engaging in disagreements among themselves.

Dickson Says NDC Partnership Is Focused on Victory

The former governor also spoke about his relationship with members of the political groups, noting that he had held several meetings with them over the years.

He described the relationship among the political actors as one that had evolved through years of political engagement, cooperation and friendship.

“I have held several meetings and even before now, we used to meet over the years. We have been colleagues, partners and friends, sometimes in the same camp, in the same party, other times, but always meeting,” Dickson said.

He maintained that the political partnership within the NDC was ultimately aimed at securing victory in the next general election.

“We have a partnership that is committed to winning the next elections. That is the most important thing,” he added.

The comments come amid ongoing political realignments and alliance-building ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition parties and political groups working to consolidate their support bases.
