Naija News reports that the commission explained the process in a video shared on its official X handle on Wednesday, encouraging NIN holders to take advantage of the digital service to obtain their identification documents conveniently from their mobile phones.

According to NIMC, users are required to download the NINAuth application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, open the app and select the “Do More with NINAuth” option. They are then expected to choose “NIN Slip” from the available services and complete the facial authentication process to verify their identities.
The commission explained that after successful facial verification, users can select “Download NIN Slip” to generate and save their official identification document directly to their mobile phones. NIMC described the process as simple, secure and completely free, warning Nigerians against paying individuals or agents to access the service.
“Once verified, click on ‘Download NIN Slip’ to generate and save the official NIMC-issued NIN slip into your mobile phone,” the commission stated, adding that the service was introduced to reduce unnecessary physical visits to its offices and make access to identification documents easier.
The NINAuth platform was launched in October 2025 to give Nigerians greater control over access to their personal identity information across sectors, including banking, telecommunications, education and government services. According to the platform’s website, the downloaded slip is the same official document issued by NIMC and is valid for identification purposes at banks, government offices and other institutions.
The National Identification Number is an 11-digit unique identification number issued to Nigerians and legal residents following successful registration in the National Identity Database. Registration involves providing personal information and undergoing biometric capture, including fingerprints and facial scans, at an approved NIMC enrolment centre.
