Naija News reports that the 46-year-old Parker takes charge with the responsibility of reviving West Ham’s promotion ambitions after consecutive home defeats against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion contributed to Nuno’s departure on Tuesday. The former England international is expected to make his managerial debut on Wednesday when the Hammers travel to face Cardiff City.

West Ham currently occupy eighth position in the Championship standings, six points behind league leaders Middlesbrough, despite beginning the campaign among the favourites for promotion. The club’s management will be hoping Parker’s experience in the second tier can help improve results and put the team back on course for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Parker arrives with an impressive Championship record, having secured promotion to the Premier League with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley. However, he has been without a managerial position since leaving Burnley in April following the club’s relegation. His experience of navigating the challenges of the Championship is expected to be valuable as West Ham seek to turn around their season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Parker described his appointment as a proud moment, highlighting his emotional connection with West Ham. “It is a very proud moment for me to step into this role and return to a club that means so much to my family and me,” he said. He also expressed confidence in his ability to guide the team back to the Premier League, adding: “I’ve been in this division three times, and I’ve got out of this division three times.”

Parker will work alongside first-team coaches Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine, while former teammate Mark Noble will support him in his capacity as the club’s sporting director. West Ham also confirmed plans to strengthen the backroom staff in the coming weeks. Parker becomes the club’s fourth permanent manager since David Moyes departed the London Stadium in May 2024.
