Tension was evident in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday when motorcycle riders and Oodua People Congress (OPC) men clashed violently over the murder of a motorbike ticketing officer. The OPC and the motorcyclists engaged in combat with each other using knives, cutlasses, and other hazardous weapons during the early morning fight.

According to an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous, the conflict began when the motorbike riders blamed the OPC men for the death of their ticketing officer, who was typically stationed at the OPC office close to the Atikankan neighborhood of Ado Ekiti.

The number of people injured by both sides in the ensuing altercation, which lasted for over two hours, has not yet been determined.
Men from the Police Rapid Response Squad have been called to the scene to reestablish law and order as of the time this story was filed.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Response Squad has arrested criminal suspects numbering about six.

Speaking of the development, the police spokesperson, CSP Abutu Sunday said that the Command acted on a distress call from the area.

“Today being 09/01/2025 at about 11:20hrs, the Command received a distress call that some hoodlums were attacking and robbing innocent people in Atikankan Area of Ado-Ekiti

“The operatives of the RRS were deployed to the axis where six of the suspects were arrested.

“They are currently undergoing investigation. Effort is underway to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.”
