According to theNEWSWORLD, onion prices have significantly decreased in both northern and southern markets. Onion prices have risen to previously unheard-of heights in recent months; a large bag now costs over ₦300,000. Nonetheless, a large bag’s cost has been decreased by over 50%.

Mustapha Ahmed, the chairman of the Kano State Onion Farmers Association, told DailyPost that small bags are now sold for ₦40,000 to ₦50,000, while large bags now cost no more than ₦80–90k.

“Onion prices are lower now than they were previously. We had previously promised that the cost would ultimately decrease,” he stated. Fresh onions are now coming to us from places like Zamfara and Sokoto. Those who were stockpiling onions were compelled to sell them as a result of this. In a similar vein, Muhammad Auwal Tahir, the deputy chairman of the Akinyele Foodstuff Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, stated in an interview with DAILY POST that a large bag used to cost ₦330,000, but now it costs ₦140,000.

“In order to prevent losses, those who stockpiled onions are now bringing them out. Onions will soon be even more plentiful as supplies flow in from places like Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina. I promise the people that costs will quickly stabilize even more,” he continued. According to the NEWSWORLD, some food merchants said that their business was nearly destroyed by the high price of onions. Due to the extraordinary spike in onion prices this year, many dealers postponed purchases until supply improved. Additionally, many families found it difficult to handle the skyrocketing cost of onions during the holiday seasons. The effects of this price decline in the north and south west on the entire nation are still unknown.
