Naija News reports that the donation was announced on Tuesday when Igboho, accompanied by members of the Iru Ekun Security Network, paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
According to a statement issued by the monarch’s Senior Media Officer, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the Ooni described the establishment of the security outfit as a timely initiative aimed at complementing existing security structures and enhancing the protection of lives and property across Yoruba communities.
The monarch commended Sunday Igboho for what he described as his courage, resilience and commitment to the welfare and security of the Yoruba people, stressing that genuine leadership is measured by selfless service and meaningful contributions to society.
“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security. Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the Ooni said.
Oba Ogunwusi further emphasised that every Yoruba son and daughter has a responsibility to contribute to the peace, unity and development of the region, noting that sustainable economic growth and social progress can only flourish in a secure environment.
Ooni Calls For United Effort On Security
The revered traditional ruler appealed to prominent Yoruba sons and daughters, traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, professionals and other stakeholders to support the Iru Ekun Security Network in its efforts to improve security across Yorubaland.
According to him, unity remains the strongest weapon against insecurity and other challenges confronting the region.
“Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland.
“This is the time for all lovers of Yoruba culture and heritage to unite for a common purpose,” he stated.
The Ooni also described Sunday Igboho as a courageous and determined patriot, adding that history would remember those who stepped forward to protect their people during difficult times.
Igboho Hails Ooni’s Support
Responding, Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the financial donation, the Hilux vehicle and the royal endorsement of the security initiative.
He described the Ooni as a symbol of unity and an inspirational leader whose humility, wisdom and commitment to the Yoruba race have earned him admiration across the world.
“The Ooni is the father of all Yoruba people worldwide. He is God’s gift to our race. His love for the Yoruba nation, humility and kindness distinguish him among traditional rulers. I have come to receive his royal blessings as we continue our mission of protecting our people,” Igboho said.
The Yoruba Nation advocate explained that the visit also provided an opportunity to brief the monarch on the activities and objectives of the Iru Ekun Security Network while seeking his continued guidance and support.
Igboho further disclosed plans to organise a summit of traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to deliberate on practical solutions to the region’s security challenges.
According to him, the proposed summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, will be hosted at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
He reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network would operate strictly within the provisions of the law and collaborate with relevant security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities.
Igboho added that the outfit’s primary focus would be on community policing, intelligence gathering, crime prevention and the promotion of peace and security across Yorubaland.
