The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has officially selected Benjamin Kayode Adereti as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 gubernatorial election. The development signals a key step in the party’s preparations for the crucial off-cycle poll in the state.

Adereti’s name appeared alongside Oyebamiji’s on the final list of candidates recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The announcement confirms the party’s leadership decision as it strengthens its campaign structure and mobilization strategy across Osun.

The APC flagbearer, popularly known as AMBO, has continued to build momentum within the party following the confirmation of his candidacy. Party leaders believe the choice of Adereti reflects a blend of political experience, professional competence, and regional balance.

Adereti, an indigene of Ile-Ife, is a professional engineer and a practicing Christian. His background in engineering and public engagement is expected to complement Oyebamiji’s administrative and political experience as the party prepares for a competitive electoral contest.

The new running mate previously contested the House of Representatives election in 2023 under the APC platform. He sought to represent the Ife Federal Constituency but was defeated by the incumbent lawmaker, Taofeek Ajilesoro. Despite the loss, Adereti maintained a visible presence in political circles within the constituency and across the state.

Political observers say his grassroots connection in Ile-Ife and surrounding communities could help the APC consolidate support in parts of Osun that remain strategically important for the election.

Adereti Strengthens AMBO’s Campaign Strategy

Within the APC, the selection of Adereti is being viewed as a strategic move aimed at reinforcing party unity and expanding voter appeal. His professional background and previous political exposure are seen as factors that could help strengthen the ticket ahead of the polls.

Party insiders believe the AMBO-Adereti combination could attract support from both professional communities and grassroots political structures. As campaigns gradually intensify, the APC leadership in the state is expected to focus on building a broad coalition of supporters.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has reaffirmed his backing for the APC candidate in the upcoming Osun governorship election.

Oyebamiji disclosed this after meeting with the president in Abuja, describing the engagement as productive and encouraging. According to him, the meeting offered strategic direction and renewed confidence as preparations for the election gather pace.

The APC governorship candidate was accompanied to the meeting by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola. Oyetola remains a key political figure within the party and continues to play a prominent role in the APC’s efforts to reclaim power in Osun.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Oyebamiji expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s leadership and continued commitment to progressive governance across the country.

He also emphasized that the meeting reinforced his determination to foster unity within the party and pursue policies that would promote sustainable development in Osun State if elected governor.

With the APC ticket now fully confirmed, attention is gradually shifting toward campaign strategies, voter engagement, and policy debates ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Political analysts expect the coming months to witness heightened political activities as parties position themselves to secure victory in what is anticipated to be a closely watched electoral contest in Osun State.
