At the Osun State House of Assembly Complex, Speaker Adewale Egbedun has sounded a strong warning over what he described as a calculated pattern capable of influencing the integrity of the electoral process in the state. His remarks come amid growing tension surrounding recent developments within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing journalists, Egbedun disclosed that the assembly had received official notice regarding the sudden resignation of the resident electoral commissioner in Osun State. According to him, the development alone raises questions, but even more troubling are reports of an ongoing redeployment of key electoral personnel across the state.
These changes, he explained, affect critical positions such as administrative secretaries, electoral officers, assistant electoral officers, and ICT personnel. Such roles are central to election planning, coordination, and transparency, making any abrupt or widespread reshuffling a matter of serious concern.

The speaker pointed out that observers have not seen similar movements in neighboring Ekiti State, which is next in the electoral sequence before Osun. He noted that this disparity raises a pressing question about why Osun appears to be the focus of such administrative changes.
Egbedun further revealed that the Assembly has received credible intelligence linking these developments to the influence of former governor Gboyega Oyetola. While the claim underscores the political sensitivity of the situation, it has also intensified scrutiny over the neutrality of electoral arrangements in the state.
Despite the unfolding concerns, the speaker maintained a firm stance on the resilience of the electorate. He emphasized that the people of Osun State are politically aware and determined to protect their democratic rights, regardless of any perceived attempts to manipulate the process.
“The people of Osun State are politically conscious, vigilant, and resolute,” Egbedun stated. “No calculated effort, no matter how structured, can suppress their democratic choice.”
Adding to the concerns, the Assembly cited reports of alleged plans within the Ife/Ijesha Senatorial District to compromise the electoral process. These plans reportedly involve placing partisan individuals in sensitive roles such as returning officers and election supervisors. Egbedun described such actions as unacceptable and warned that they would face strong resistance.
The Assembly also issued a clear directive to all officials assigned to electoral duties in Osun State. It urged them to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, stressing that any deviation could undermine the credibility of the elections.
Furthermore, Egbedun called on the international community, development partners, and election observers to closely monitor the situation as it evolves. According to him, increased oversight will help ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process.
Reaffirming the Assembly’s position, the Speaker emphasized that the demand of the people remains unchanged: a free, fair, and credible election. He concluded by reiterating that Osun residents will not tolerate any action capable of compromising democratic values.
As political attention turns toward Osun State, the unfolding developments highlight the delicate balance between electoral administration and public trust, a balance that stakeholders insist must be carefully preserved.
