The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), an organisation the Federal Government has maintained does not exist.

Adeyemi was apprehended on Tuesday during an operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Biodun Ojelabi, said the state command was aware of the arrest but clarified that its personnel were not involved in the operation.

“We are aware that the individual parading himself as the Director-General of the controversial PFIPC, Adeyemi, was picked up today in the state. The team that effected the arrest came from the Force Headquarters, Abuja,” Ojelabi said.

He further disclosed that the operation was conducted in the early hours of Tuesday by officers attached to the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team.

According to the police spokesperson, “He was picked up in the early hours by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team.”

Adeyemi’s arrest followed a bench warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja after he failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment.

The suspect is facing charges bordering on alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation in connection with claims that he headed the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which the Presidency has repeatedly stated was never established by the Federal Government.

His arraignment is expected to proceed after he is presented before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
