Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that his father advised him to stay away from politics and government, but he chose to support his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election. Speaking during a livestream with content creator Dravel, the singer said his father was concerned about his growing political involvement, but he assured him that his popularity and widespread support among Nigerians gave him confidence that their political efforts would succeed.

Davido also alleged that some social media users had accepted ₦100,000 from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to promote the party on the social media platform 𝕏. Although he did not provide evidence to support the claim, the singer insisted that he knew some of those allegedly involved. He further accused the APC of being incapable of conducting a free and fair election, alleging that the party resorted to violence because it feared defeat in the forthcoming governorship poll.

Expressing optimism about the outcome of the election, Davido declared that his preferred political camp would emerge victorious after the August 15 governorship election. He said such a victory would restore hope to Nigerians and pledged that Osun State’s resources would remain within the state for development rather than benefiting other locations. His comments come amid heightened political activities and intensified security preparations ahead of the governorship election, which will feature incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party (A), APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and other contenders.
