Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “swamp,” declaring that prominent governors, including Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, will eventually leave the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Fayose said the PDP no longer has the moral or political standing to expel influential figures like Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike or himself, noting that many of those who once accused them of anti-party activities have since defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The PDP today is a cloth torn into two halves and of no use to either side,” Fayose stated, lamenting what he described as deep internal fractures, lack of cohesion, and the absence of clear leadership direction within the opposition party.

According to the former governor, the ongoing crisis has weakened the PDP’s relevance and capacity to function as a credible alternative to the APC, adding that the party’s internal contradictions have driven key stakeholders to explore other political platforms.

Fayose’s remarks come amid rising speculation about possible defections and realignments ahead of future elections, as opposition parties reposition and political heavyweights weigh their options in an increasingly fluid political landscape.
