Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer in Apata
According to the police spokesperson, surveillance operatives attached to the Iyaganku Area Command commenced targeted monitoring operations after receiving credible intelligence about the suspect.
The operation reportedly culminated in Rilwan’s arrest at about 8:00 a.m. on Friday in the Apata area.
During the operation, police said they recovered a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Other substances described by the police as suspected dangerous drugs were also reportedly recovered from the suspect.
Olayinka said Rilwan remains in police custody and is cooperating with investigators as preliminary investigations continue.
The investigation is expected to establish the source of the suspected drugs, determine the extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement in the illicit trade, and identify other individuals who may be connected to the activities.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect would be charged before a court after the completion of the preliminary investigation.
Police Intensify Drug-Related Operations
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, described illicit drugs as a major factor contributing to different forms of crime and criminality.
He said the command would continue to rely on intelligence-led policing to disrupt drug trafficking networks and other criminal activities across the state.
Olugbenga also appealed to residents to provide the police with credible and actionable information that could assist security operatives in identifying criminal networks and preventing further offences.
The commissioner assured members of the public that the command would sustain its efforts to tackle activities capable of threatening public safety and security in Oyo State.
The arrest comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to curb the circulation of illicit drugs, which authorities have repeatedly linked to various forms of criminal activity.
Police investigations into the Ibadan case are ongoing, with further developments expected as investigators establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged drug activities.
