‎Police Launch Rescue Operation As Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons Are Abducted In Ibadan

‎The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

‎The victims, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul, were reportedly kidnapped by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while she was taking the children to school.

‎Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Command had commenced an intensive investigation and rescue operation aimed at securing the victims’ safe release and apprehending those responsible for the crime.

‎According to the police spokesperson, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Challenge Division, alongside tactical teams, to move to the scene after receiving a report of the incident.

‎The police disclosed that the victim’s vehicle had been recovered, while detectives and other security operatives had launched coordinated efforts to track down the kidnappers.

‎“The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the abduction of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke and her twin sons, who were reportedly abducted earlier today,” the statement said.

‎“Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the DPO, Challenge Division, alongside other tactical teams, to proceed to the scene where the victim’s vehicle was recovered and commence intensive investigations.”

‎The Command assured residents that all necessary resources and operational assets had been deployed to ensure the victims are rescued unharmed and the perpetrators brought to justice.

‎It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

‎“The Command urges residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with the Police by providing any useful information that may assist ongoing investigations,” the statement added.

‎Earlier, the Adelabu family announced that Mrs. John-Paul, the youngest sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons had been abducted while travelling to school in Ibadan.

‎In a statement issued by the family, security agencies were said to have been promptly notified, with confidence expressed in ongoing efforts to secure the victims’ release.

‎The family described the incident as distressing and appealed to the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information that could jeopardise rescue operations.

‎Mrs. John-Paul, until her voluntary retirement last year, worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian. Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while preparing to join her husband, Mr. John-Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.

‎Chief Adelabu and members of the family expressed optimism in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims and bring the kidnappers to justice.

‎They also called on anyone with useful information regarding the abduction to report such details through the appropriate security channels.
