The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged his critics to provide evidence that he misappropriated funds donated to the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Nevon Media hosted by journalist Rufai Oseni, Obi dismissed allegations that he and activist Aisha Yesufu diverted donations intended for the Labour Party’s presidential campaign.

According to the former governor of Anambra State, the accusations are unfounded and have been repeatedly made without any supporting evidence.

Reacting to claims that billions of naira or millions of dollars were allegedly taken from Labour Party accounts, Obi questioned the basis of the allegations.

“I don’t go by people talking nonsensically and listen to them. He said that we took from the Labour Party’s account ₦10 billion or $30 million. Where is the account?” Obi asked.

He argued that those making the allegations have failed to present any documentation or verifiable evidence showing that such funds existed or that they were improperly handled.

Obi disclosed that he is compiling a list of individuals who have accused him of financial misconduct and intends to challenge them publicly to substantiate their claims.

“I’m going to include every accuser very soon in the list of the people I want to come out and prove that I took money from the Labour Party’s account or any financial mismanagement allegation,” he said.

The NDC candidate maintained that his public service record remains open to scrutiny and insisted that he has conducted his political activities transparently.

In a strong rebuttal to the allegations, Obi declared that he would abandon his political campaign if anyone could prove he benefited from Labour Party donations.

“Look, if anyone can prove that I took one per cent of Labour Party’s donations, I will stop campaigning,” he stated.

The comments add to the ongoing political debate surrounding campaign financing and accountability ahead of the 2027 elections. While Obi has firmly denied the allegations, no publicly verified evidence has been presented to support claims that he misappropriated funds meant for the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign.
