The House of Representatives has extended the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The extension was approved during Tuesday’s plenary following a motion moved by the House Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere.

Moving the motion, Ihonvbere said the capital component of the 2025 budget had not been fully implemented due to prevailing economic difficulties, which had slowed the execution of some government projects.

The House subsequently approved the extension to give ministries, departments and agencies of government additional time to implement capital projects captured in the 2025 budget.

The decision effectively allows the relevant government agencies to continue implementing the affected capital projects beyond the original September 30 deadline and up to December 31, 2026.

The extension comes as the Federal Government and the National Assembly continue efforts to improve budget implementation and ensure that approved capital projects are executed.
