Afia TV journalist Cece Emechebe has predicted that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde may ultimately not contest the 2027 presidential election, despite his current bid under the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

Emechebe made the prediction during an interview on Afia TV on Tuesday, where she discussed possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the journalist, Makinde could eventually abandon his presidential ambition and enter into an alliance with another political force, potentially including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Emechebe said she was considering different possible scenarios because Makinde’s eventual political direction remained uncertain as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

She suggested that one possibility was for the Oyo governor to negotiate with the APC and support President Bola Tinubu, citing political and ethnic considerations as among the factors that could influence such a decision.

“There’s another chance that he might decide to switch and then ally with the ruling party at the last moment and then sell his votes to Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the grounds of a number of factors like ethnicity. He’s a Yoruba man after all. I’m just painting the scenarios that could happen,” Emechebe said.

She, however, presented the prediction as her personal assessment of the possible political developments ahead of the election.

“But whatever happens at the end of the day, one thing is certain: you can say you heard it from me first. Seyi Makinde will not end up on that ballot fully when the rubber hits the fire,” she said.

According to Emechebe, Makinde would eventually form an alliance rather than pursue an independent presidential campaign, although she said it remained unclear which political force he would align with.

“He’s not going to be on that ballot because he doesn’t have a strong enough mandate to pursue this. But he’s going to form an alliance, with whom is yet to be seen,” she added.

Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Ambition

Makinde is currently seeking the presidency under the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

The Oyo State governor emerged as the party’s presidential candidate in May 2026, following his declaration of interest in the presidency at a rally in Ibadan.

His emergence has made him one of the political figures being closely watched ahead of the 2027 presidential contest, particularly amid ongoing opposition negotiations and discussions over possible alliances and consensus candidates.

However, Emechebe’s prediction remains speculative. Makinde has not, based on the statement provided, announced any decision to withdraw his presidential candidacy or support President Tinubu.

The 2027 political landscape is expected to witness further realignments as political parties, presidential aspirants and influential political actors negotiate alliances ahead of the election.
