The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has denied any involvement in allegations of corruption, reaffirming his commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity amid an ongoing investigation into his Personal Assistant, Andrew Uchi.

News reports indicate that Andrew Uchi is currently being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of multi-billion naira corruption, bribery, and money laundering. Sources close to the case revealed that Uchi remains in EFCC custody as of Sunday, March 16, 2025, assisting in investigations related to financial misconduct.

EFCC Investigates Uchi Over Alleged ₦10 Billion Scandal

According to insiders, the EFCC is probing allegations involving corruption, bribery, and money laundering, with the estimated amount believed to be around ₦10 billion. However, sources suggest the figure could be higher or lower, as investigations are still ongoing.

“It may be more than ₦10 billion or not up to that amount, but I know EFCC officials are still questioning him,” a source disclosed to SaharaReporters.

Reports also indicate that Uchi has been in EFCC custody since Monday, March 10, 2025, following a petition alleging that he acquired properties worth over ₦6 billion in various locations, including Abuja, Jos (Plateau State), and Benue State (Makurdi, Gboko, and Tarka Local Government Areas).

SGF’s Office Responds to Allegations

In response to the allegations, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, released an official statement on Monday, March 17, 2025.

“The attention of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has been drawn to the ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) involving Hon. Andrew Torhile Uchi, Personal Assistant to the SGF, regarding allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering,” the statement read.

SGF Reiterates Commitment to Transparency

The statement further emphasized that the SGF’s office was not involved in the alleged financial misconduct and remains committed to upholding integrity and accountability in governance.

“It is imperative to state categorically that the leadership of this office is not in any way involved in the alleged misconduct, as it has always maintained a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity.

We recognize the efforts of the EFCC in this matter to ensure that those found culpable are held accountable.

However, we urge the public not to speculate or draw conclusions as investigations are still ongoing.

The OSGF appreciates the understanding and support of the public on this matter.”
