President Bola Tinubu has been warned by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State that the proposed tax reform laws are anti-northern Nigerian and will not benefit the area.
When Mohammed hosted the Christian community in Bauchi State at the Government House on Thursday, he made this announcement.
Mohammed claims that the National Assembly’s current tax reform bills are biased in favor of a certain region of the nation.
He underlined that the tax reform proposals should be dropped by the president since Northern Nigeria will not benefit from them. Mohammed clarified that the measures would not ensure there would be enough money to build roads in the area and pay workers.
Mohammed, the chairman of the Governors Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called on the president to pay attention to the issues facing northern Nigeria. If the presidency doesn’t, he said, it will be calling for chaos.
That is why the president ought to pay attention to the calls for tax reform,” Mohammed said.
Since we would not have the funds to build roads or pay your salaries, it is not a smart policy for northern Nigeria.
“They are asking for anarchy if they do not heed. Additionally, that is not good. They need to pay attention to us because we cast ballots for the presidency in this state and others. They must refrain from developing policies that favor a single state or even a subset of the nation.
He stated, “It is about national unity, national hegemony, and this is what we are all about: strong leadership. It is not about religion or tribe.”
As you may remember, the National Economic Council, headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Northern governors and parliament rejected the tax reform bills.
