Bauchi

A heated war of words has erupted following claims that Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, slapped Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, at a recent public event. The allegation, which rapidly gained traction on social media, has been forcefully denied by Adam Tuggar, son of the minister, who described the report as “baseless” and accused the Bauchi Governor’s son, Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, of orchestrating a smear campaign.

In a strongly worded post on his official Facebook page, Adam Tuggar expressed outrage over the viral rumour, calling out Shamsuddeen for promoting what he termed “a shameful act.” Normally known for maintaining a low profile online, Adam broke his silence to address the matter, launching a blistering attack against the younger Mohammed and questioning his motives.

Adam Tuggar: “A Slap? Not Even Possible”

Adam didn’t hold back as he dismantled the allegation, firmly stating that such an incident never occurred. “If it had been your father who slapped Amb. Tuggar, he would have gone home with a bleeding mouth and nose, let alone an incapacitated Deputy Governor like Jatau,” he said, dismissing the claim as an insult to his father’s stature and legacy.

He lambasted Shamsuddeen for attempting to gain cheap popularity through unfounded claims, branding his behaviour “immoral and uncalled for.” Adam further accused the governor’s son of targeting prominent personalities, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for political gain.

“This recent shameful act by the spoiled brat son of the Bauchi State Governor and his media dogs has compelled me to throw some tantrums,” Adam wrote, breaking his typical silence on political affairs.

Political Lineage and Personal Attacks

Highlighting his family’s deep political roots, Adam Tuggar noted that his father served as a senator during Nigeria’s Second Republic, long before many of today’s political figures came to prominence. Taking a jab at Shamsuddeen’s background, he posed pointed questions: “Where was your grandfather then? Who was he? What contributions did he make to the development of Bauchi State, let alone Nigeria at large?”

In a particularly scathing remark, Adam advised Shamsuddeen to “zip that hole on your face you call a mouth” when elder politicians are involved in conflicts, implying that the younger Bala lacks the political maturity and experience to weigh in on such matters.

He concluded his tirade by urging the Bauchi Governor’s son to direct his energy toward meaningful issues, especially those concerning governance in the state. “Your father has more pressing issues to address. He should focus on the affairs of Bauchi State instead of diverting the masses’ attention by fabricating and spreading such stories,” Adam said.

Deputy Governor’s Office Responds: “The Allegation is False”

In response to the uproar, the deputy governor’s office has issued a categorical denial. Speaking to journalists, Muslim Lawal, Press Secretary to Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau, rejected the claim outright, stating that such an incident never occurred.

“No, no, how can a deputy governor slap a minister? I don’t think such a thing ever happened in Bauchi,” Lawal said, adding that his principal, known for his composure and integrity, would never resort to such behavior.

He also pointed out that this was the first he had heard of the accusation and challenged anyone with proof to come forward. “If there is any evidence that the deputy governor did that, you can speak on that. We don’t know about it. The deputy governor cannot do that.”

Background: Royal Ceremony Sparks Political Drama

The incident in question reportedly took place during the turbaning ceremony of former Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar as Makama Babba 1 of the Bauchi Emirate at the Emir of Bauchi’s palace. While no eyewitness accounts have confirmed the slap allegation, the political fallout has been swift, with personal rivalries now threatening to overshadow what was intended to be a ceremonial occasion.

As the verbal exchanges intensify between sons of high-ranking political figures, calls are growing for calm and responsible public discourse, especially when it concerns unverified claims that could inflame political tensions.
