A senior chief in the Olubadan-in-Council and renowned journalist, Chief Lekan Alabi, has died at the age of 76. Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, reportedly passed away in Lagos on Saturday morning.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued by the Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Adeola Oloko. According to family sources, the late elder statesman will be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites. His passing has drawn tributes from colleagues, associates and admirers who described him as a distinguished journalist, accomplished communicator and respected traditional leader.

Chief Alabi served as Press Secretary to successive military and civilian governors in Oyo State, earning widespread recognition for his contributions to journalism, public communication and strategic media management. Over a career spanning several decades, he became one of Oyo State’s most respected media figures, playing a pivotal role in government communication during key political transitions.

Beyond his journalism career, Alabi was an influential member of the Olubadan-in-Council, where he contributed significantly to traditional affairs in Ibadanland. He was widely remembered for his professionalism, intellectual depth and unwavering commitment to excellence in public service and media practice.
