‎The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, has condemned the division among labour unions in the state, describing the development as a politicisation of the labour movement.

‎In a statement issued by the Director-General of the ADC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Segun Olanibi, Salaam expressed concern over reports that workers celebrated the occasion in separate factions, allegedly aligned with different political interests.

‎He described the situation as troubling and warned that partisan interference in labour affairs undermines the unity and effectiveness of workers in advocating for their welfare.

‎“Workers’ Day is a moment of solidarity, not separation. It is a day to reflect on the dignity of labour, the struggles of workers, and our shared commitment to a better future. To see workers divided along political lines is both unfortunate and unacceptable,” he said.

‎The ADC candidate accused the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of fuelling divisions within the labour movement for political gain, noting that such actions weaken workers’ collective bargaining power.

‎He, however, reassured workers in Osun State that an ADC-led administration would prioritise their welfare and protect labour unions from political interference.

‎“My administration will restore unity within the labour movement by creating an enabling environment where workers can organise, engage and advocate freely, without fear or interference.

“We will ensure prompt payment of salaries and pensions and establish a transparent and inclusive system of engagement with all labour bodies,” Salaam stated.

‎He emphasised that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of division and distrust, stressing that unity among workers is essential for social stability and progress.

‎Dr. Salaam further urged workers across the state to resist attempts to divide them and remain committed to the pursuit of fairness, dignity and economic justice.

‎“Together, we are stronger. The future of Osun depends on our collective strength, not our divisions,” he added.
