The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Tukur Mohammed-Baba, has criticised former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, over comments comparing himself to late northern political icons, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Aminu Kano.
Mohammed-Baba described such comparisons as inappropriate and “delusional,” insisting that the historical figures operated within unique political and social contexts that cannot be replicated.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, the ACF spokesman accused Kwankwaso of portraying himself as a new political messiah for Northern Nigeria.
“He has been saying the wrong things, talking about Sarduana, Aminu Kano, saying he is the new Messiah and I think that in the North that is very irreverent because you can’t compare yourself to those people, they operated in the context of their time,” Mohammed-Baba stated.
“It will be highly delusional of him to go that far and say he presents an alternative,” he added.
The remarks come amid increasing political activities and realignments involving Kwankwaso and his supporters within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that Kwankwaso threatened to leave the NDC following disagreements over candidate replacements within the party.
The movement described the reports as unfounded rumours, insisting that neither Kwankwaso nor the Kwankwasiyya bloc had raised complaints regarding the matter.
Speaking with Vanguard, the movement’s spokesman, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said, “The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining.”
Recent reports had alleged that the Kwankwasiyya faction might exit the NDC after some candidates allegedly nominated by the movement were replaced during the party’s internal processes.
The controversy reportedly emerged after substitutions were made to certain candidate lists, with claims that the changes violated an earlier power-sharing arrangement within the party structure.
However, Mohammed insisted that the party primaries were conducted in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines established by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to him, the winners of the primaries were duly affirmed on May 29, while party stakeholders had earlier agreed on adopting consensus candidates where necessary.
He added that the list of candidates was submitted without internal disputes and maintained that Kwankwaso had not communicated any dissatisfaction with the party to the movement.
Mohammed also dismissed reports suggesting that the former Kano governor was planning to dump the NDC, insisting that such claims were entirely baseless.
The developments highlight growing political tensions within opposition circles as parties continue preparations and internal restructuring ahead of future elections.
