In January 2021, at the 11th Convocation of JABU, Hon. Oke was decorated with an honorary doctorate degree. In his acceptance speech, he promised to build a befitting lecture theatre as a mark of gratitude.
On July 10, 2021, he posted a 3D design of the proposed theatre and publicly thanked his friends and associates for donating towards the project.
Five years after, what stands in JABU is not a lecture theatre but an abandoned foundation overgrown with weeds — a monument of broken promises.
How do you collect an honorary degree on the strength of a promise, solicit donations from friends which you publicly acknowledged, and then abandon the project for five years? Where is the honor in that doctorate?
We hereby demand that Hon. Wole Oke returns the honorary degree to JABU and gives a full public account of all funds donated for the JABU lecture theatre project.
Ijesa North deserves a representative who builds, not one whose projects become ruins.
