Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has firmly denied reports suggesting that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The statement followed online reports that emerged on Tuesday alleging that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria had concluded arrangements to dump the APC for the SDP.

Reacting to the speculation, Adelabu’s camp described the reports as false, baseless, and deliberately designed to mislead the public.
According to the statement, Adelabu remains a loyal member of the APC and has no intention of joining any other political party.
“Those behind this rumour should understand that Chief Adelabu remains a committed and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and no amount of falsehood, propaganda, wishful thinking, or political mischief can alter that reality,” the statement said.
The former minister’s media team further argued that attempts to associate him with a planned defection were politically motivated and aimed at generating unnecessary attention.
“The attempt to link Chief Adelabu with a non-existent defection agenda is therefore highly disrespectful and should be condemned by all well-meaning members of the public. It is nothing more than a calculated effort to generate media attention and create an artificial political trend where none exists,” the statement added.
Adelabu also urged his supporters and APC members across Oyo State to ignore the rumours and remain focused on the party’s activities.
According to the statement, he remains fully engaged in his political commitments within the APC and has not held discussions regarding a move to any other political platform.
The denial comes as political realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 elections continue to generate debate across Nigeria’s political landscape.
