Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has withdrawn the suit he filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the freezing of the state government’s bank account ahead of the just-concluded governorship election.

Adeleke had earlier challenged the EFCC’s decision to obtain an order restricting access to the state government’s account, describing the action as politically motivated and disruptive to the administration. However, following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, which led to the lifting of the restriction and the discontinuation of the related legal action, Adeleke said he had decided to move on from the dispute. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics hours after being declared winner of the election, the governor said he had instructed the Osun State Attorney General to withdraw the case. “I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.

The governor also said some of his aides and supporters had been invited by the EFCC for questioning, but maintained that his lawyers had been directed to assist them. Adeleke alleged that the invitations were part of efforts to distract his administration and linked the development to former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, while stressing that President Tinubu was not necessarily aware of actions taken by federal agencies. “Most of these things, the President doesn’t know,” he said. Adeleke added that he had no objection to his officials responding to legitimate investigations, saying, “We haven’t got anything to hide.”
