ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House in Abuja, marking the first council session since June 29, 2026.

The meeting commenced at about 2:30pm after President Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber to chair the session. Proceedings began with the national anthem, as members of the council gathered for the meeting.

Those in attendance included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Didi Walson-Jack; National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside ministers, presidential aides and heads of government agencies.

The council also observed a minute’s silence in honour of two former federal ministers who recently passed away.

The first was Abubakar Alhaji, who served as Minister of Finance during the administration of former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, and died on July 30, 2026.

FEC also honoured Professor Turner Isoun, who served as Minister of Science and Technology under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Isoun died on July 15, 2026.

The tributes formed part of the opening proceedings as the council resumed its regular policy and administrative deliberations after a prolonged interval.

At the previous FEC meeting held on June 29, 2026, President Tinubu had sworn in two newly appointed Federal Commissioners representing Bauchi and Kaduna states on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The commissioners were Amina Gamawa, representing Bauchi State, and Abdullahi Mukhtar, representing Kaduna State.

The swearing-in ceremony took place shortly before the June 29 council meeting commenced.

The latest FEC meeting comes as the Tinubu administration continues to implement economic and institutional reforms while reviewing policies and projects across various sectors of the country.

Details of decisions and approvals reached at Wednesday’s council meeting are expected to be made public following briefings by government officials.
