LONDON — British boxing promoter Frank Warren has revealed that Anthony Joshua is yet to sign the contract for his highly anticipated heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury, despite Fury having already completed his side of the agreement.

Warren said negotiations for the proposed all-British blockbuster remain stalled because of conflicting contractual terms, particularly over the venue. Joshua’s existing agreement reportedly favours a venue in the United Kingdom, with Wembley Stadium among the options, while broadcaster Netflix and Saudi-backed Sela are pushing for the fight to be staged at Madison Square Garden in New York.

According to Warren, the conflicting agreements must be amended before the fight can be officially finalised, with Joshua’s camp required to resolve the outstanding contractual issues.

“It’s not for me to give him [a deadline]; it’s the people who are paying the money. It’s all this stuff, as I said from the beginning, it’s about contracts. I know what the contracts say. The contracts have all got to be amended,” Warren told The Independent.

Warren stressed that Fury has already signed his contract and is prepared to fight regardless of the eventual venue.

“Tyson’s signed. Tyson’s done. He don’t care when the fight takes place. [If] they want it in New York, they want it in Barbados, they want it on the Isle of Wight, he’s signed. He’s done.”

The promoter explained that Fury signed the agreement in January when the fight was initially targeted for September. However, the proposed schedule was disrupted following an accident involving Joshua, leading to a postponement.

“He signed for the fight in January. The fight was supposed to take place in September, but what happened with AJ and his accident, that all got pushed back,” Warren said.

He added that after Joshua returned to action and Fury’s previous commitments were completed, November emerged as the preferred window for the heavyweight clash. However, disagreements between the various contracts have continued to prevent the fight from being finalised.

“Where we got to with it was obviously AJ had his fight back, and we’d already had that one in December with Jake Paul.

“Then, it was decided to put it on in November. But one contract says one venue, the other contract says another venue, and the TV contract says another venue. I don’t do the contracts.”

The proposed Joshua-Fury fight remains one of the most anticipated all-British heavyweight bouts in boxing, but the latest comments suggest that contractual and venue issues must first be resolved before an official date and location can be confirmed.
