Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared that they will not support or participate in any political alliance capable of undermining the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The position was disclosed by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma after a meeting of the APC Governors Forum in Abuja.

According to Uzodimma, the governors unanimously agreed that members of the forum would not endorse any political arrangement that could weaken the APC or negatively affect candidates contesting elections under the party’s platform.

The governors’ resolution comes as political activities and discussions around possible alliances intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uzodimma said the forum would reject arrangements capable of creating confusion or divided loyalty among APC members.

He stressed that the governors were committed to protecting the interests of the party and ensuring that political arrangements do not work against APC candidates at any level.

 APC Governors Take Firm Position on Political Alliances

The Imo governor said the APC Governors Forum had resolved that none of its members would participate in, support or endorse an alliance that could adversely affect the party or its candidates.

He explained that political arrangements capable of creating competing interests within the APC would not be entertained.

The position effectively places the party’s electoral interests at the centre of the governors’ approach to emerging political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Uzodimma, the governors want to avoid situations where members of the party could find themselves divided between competing political interests or commitments.

He said the forum’s decision was unanimous, indicating a common position among APC governors on the need to maintain party cohesion.

The statement also reinforces the governors’ stated commitment to President Tinubu’s political future as the country moves closer to the next general elections.

Political alliances have traditionally played an important role in Nigeria’s electoral contests, with parties and politicians frequently negotiating partnerships to strengthen their chances at the polls.
