There was panic in parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, this morning following rumours of an alleged bandit attack on a school.

The development caused some disruption of academic activities in some schools as concerned parents besieged school premises seeking to ensure the safety of their children.

Security operatives were thereafter promptly deployed to several schools across Akure, the Ondo State capital, following the rumours .

*Authorities Allay Rumor of Bandits Invasion*

The Ondo State Government has dismissed viral reports alleging a kidnap incident in a school within the Akure metropolis, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the government said there was no record of any kidnapping incident in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in the state capital.

The government maintained that all schools in Akure remained safe, fully and operational.

Similarly, the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has given assurance to all parents, guardians, and the general public that schools remain safe, secure, and conducive for learning.

In an interaction with Radio Nigeria, the commissioner for education, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun said school activities continue as scheduled, as the ministry remained committed to an uninterrupted, safe academic calendar .

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has warned individuals against the deliberate spread of false information capable of causing public disorder.

The warning on the heels of a recent bandit attack scare rocking the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu in a statement said anyone found responsible for disseminating misinformation intended to incite panic would be investigated and dealt with in accordance with the law
