BAUCHI, NIGERIA — The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has recorded a sweeping victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship seats contested across the state.
The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) also declared the APM winner in 319 out of the 323 councillorship seats, with candidates of four other political parties securing the remaining four wards.

BASIEC Chairperson, Jummai Abubakar, announced the results after the completion of voting, counting, collation and verification. She declared that all 20 APM candidates had emerged victorious in their respective Local Government Areas.
The declared results showed that Bappah Aliyu won Alkaleri LGA with 107,482 votes, while Umar Mohammed secured Bauchi LGA with 125,170 votes. Zakka Luka won Bogoro with 25,282 votes, Iliya Isah took Dambam with 19,730 votes, and Ya’u Sade emerged victorious in Darazo with 67,276 votes.
In other results, Mohammed Jibo won Dass with 35,264 votes, Ali Babayo secured Gamawa with 54,423 votes, while Mohammed Idris won Ganjuwa with 24,150 votes. Mustapha Musa took Giade with 33,864 votes, Dankawuwa Ya’u won Itas/Gadau with 24,989 votes, and Inuwa Abdullahi secured Jama’are with 36,766 votes.
Yusuf Babayo Zaki won Katagum with 65,626 votes, while Garba Musa emerged victorious in Kirfi with 24,787 votes. Salisu Hussaini secured Misau with 34,378 votes, while Yahuza Adamu Haruna won Ningi with 29,387 votes.
In Shira LGA, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi, won the chairmanship contest after polling 37,135 votes. Sama’ila Wakili won Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes, Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo secured Toro with 109,999 votes, Habibu Idris won Warji with 43,066 votes, while Mas’ud Aliyu emerged victorious in Zaki with 19,984 votes.
Despite the APM’s dominance, four councillorship seats were won by opposition parties. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) won Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA; the National Rescue Movement (NRM) secured Darazo South Ward; the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won Wandi Ward in Dass LGA; and the Young Progressive Party (YPP) secured Zirami Ward in Giade LGA.
BASIEC said all successful candidates met the applicable legal requirements and obtained the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective constituencies.
Abubakar commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his support to the electoral commission but stressed that the election was conducted independently and in accordance with the law.
The BASIEC chairperson congratulated the people of Bauchi State and the successful candidates on the conclusion of the local government elections, which produced an overwhelming victory for the APM.
