The German soccer team announced on Wednesday that Borussia Dortmund had fired coach Nuri Sahin following Tuesday’s shocking 2-1 Champions League loss to Bologna.
Their losing streak now stands at four games in all competitions after Tuesday’s defeat. “After an internal review of recent athletic events, Borussia Dortmund has fired head coach Nuri Sahin with immediate effect,” the team announced in a statement.
After leading the Italians in the fifteenth minute, the 2024 Champions League finalists from the Ruhr Valley gave up two goals in two minutes in the second half.

Additionally, they have lost all three of their 2025 league games, falling to 10th position in the Bundesliga and jeopardizing their spot in Europe’s top club competition the following season.
In the announcement, Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken said, “After four straight losses and just one victory in the last nine games, we have regretfully lost faith in being able to fulfill our sporting goals in the current constellation.”
“I personally regret this choice as well, but after the Bologna game, it was unavoidable.” A little more than six months after being named the club’s new coach to succeed Edin Terzic, Sahin, 36, departs. The German-born former Turkish international played for the team as a young player and as a senior.
After two years as a coach at Antalyaspor in Turkey, he joined Dortmund as an assistant coach in 2024. He had committed to a deal through 2027.
The team stated that the manager for this week’s league matchup against Werder Bremen would be announced shortly.
