Nigerian music star Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has triggered widespread reactions online after admitting that entertainers have not done enough to speak out about the challenges facing Nigeria.

The singer made the remarks in a post shared on his official social media page, where he expressed concern about injustice and worsening conditions in the country.

In his post, Davido acknowledged that entertainers, including himself, had remained too silent on national issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

According to the singer, the situation in the country has become too serious for influential public figures to ignore.

“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey f**k up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” he wrote.

The statement quickly generated debate across social media platforms, with supporters praising him for speaking honestly while critics questioned his intentions.

One of the reactions came from a social media user identified as Princess Luna, who accused the singer of being insincere and politically motivated.

The user alleged that Davido’s comments were performative and linked him to a political support group commonly referred to online as “City Boys.”

Her remarks appeared to anger the singer, leading to a heated online exchange.

Responding directly, Davido denied belonging to any political group and insisted that he had criticised the government publicly in the past.

Davido stated that he had previously spoken against the Nigerian government during an appearance on American media platforms, but was criticised by Nigerians afterward.

“I no dey part of any City Boy group. When I called out the government on American media, you guys rained curses on me,” he wrote.

The singer also clarified that his relationship with “ST,” believed to refer to a political associate or acquaintance, was purely personal and not political.

According to him, friendship should not automatically translate into political affiliation.

The controversy has once again reignited discussions about the role of Nigerian celebrities in political and social advocacy.

Many social commentators argue that entertainers possess massive influence and should use their platforms more actively to address governance issues, economic hardship, and injustice.

Others, however, maintain that celebrities often face backlash regardless of whether they speak out or remain silent.

Davido’s comments continue to trend online, with supporters defending his right to express frustration while critics accuse public figures of speaking only when it becomes convenient.

The exchange reflects the growing tension on Nigerian social media, where political discussions increasingly involve celebrities, influencers, and entertainment figures.

As economic and political conversations intensify nationwide, public expectations for influential personalities to take stronger positions on national issues appear to be rising.
