The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed an attempted cyberattack on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, warning members of the public to disregard suspicious or unauthorised content published from the account while efforts are made to restore full control.

The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba. According to the DHQ, the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity matter, with technical measures activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access. The military authorities assured Nigerians that efforts were ongoing to fully regain control of the platform and maintain the security of the account.

The DHQ urged Nigerians and the media to remain vigilant and rely on its verified accounts on other platforms for official information about the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. These include Defence Headquarters Nigeria on Facebook, @defenceheadquarters on Instagram and the Defence Headquarters Nigeria WhatsApp Channel. The military said it would provide further updates as the situation develops.
