The Department of State Services (DSS) has re-arrested the national president of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, shortly after he was released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Bodejo was reportedly picked up by DSS operatives on Friday as he was leaving the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where his lawyers had gone to secure his release after fulfilling the conditions of a ₦2 billion bail granted by the Federal High Court. A source within the EFCC confirmed that the Miyetti Allah leader had been released after his bail conditions were perfected.

Bodejo’s wife, Hajiya Hauwa Bodejo, said DSS operatives had waited around the EFCC gate for hours before allegedly moving in and taking her husband away in three vans. She said the family was shocked by the development, particularly because Bodejo had complied with the court’s bail conditions.

According to Hauwa, EFCC officials had contacted Bodejo’s lawyers on Thursday night and directed them to come with court officials for the release. She said the family later arrived at the EFCC headquarters and was preparing to leave with Bodejo when DSS operatives allegedly intervened.

“But to the shock of our belief, as we were leaving the EFCC premises, the officials of the DSS, whose presence we noticed around the EFCC’s gate, rushed toward my husband, and suddenly whisked him away, in the company of three vans,” she said.

The development has also raised fresh concerns from Bodejo’s family over his health. Hauwa alleged that his condition had deteriorated during his detention and that his personal doctor had repeatedly been denied access to him.

Bodejo was arraigned by the EFCC on July 9 over an alleged $2.63 million money laundering case. He pleaded not guilty to the charges before a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail of ₦2 billion on July 20.

However, he remained in custody until the bail conditions were perfected. The EFCC subsequently released him, only for DSS operatives to reportedly take him away.

As of the latest development, the DSS has not publicly disclosed the reason for Bodejo’s re-arrest.
