According to FIFA, Nigeria was penalised for a breach relating to order and security at matches, specifically involving the throwing of objects by spectators during the encounter. The action violates Article 17 and Article 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) received a heavier punishment after supporters were found to have used laser pointers or similar electronic devices during the match, an act that contravenes Article 17.2.d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
FIFA consequently handed the Congolese football body a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle stirred controversy following the match after accusing some DR Congo officials of engaging in voodoo practices after Nigeria’s defeat.
The comments have sparked debate among fans and observers, though FIFA has not indicated any disciplinary action regarding the allegation.
