Staff members of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) have strongly condemned the deduction of their weigh-in and shift allowances from their January salaries under the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), describing the development as unjust and distressing.
The aggrieved workers, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, expressed frustration that despite assurances from relevant authorities that the deductions would be promptly refunded, no such action has been taken months after the incident.

According to the staff, the sudden removal of the allowances has caused significant financial strain, particularly given the rising cost of living in the country. They noted that the weigh-in and shift allowances form an integral part of their earnings, especially for those engaged in technical and round-the-clock broadcasting duties.

“It is disheartening that such deductions were made without prior notice, and even more troubling that the promised refund has not materialized,” one of the affected employees said. “We have continued to discharge our duties professionally, yet our welfare appears to be neglected.”
The workers further called on the management of FRCN and the administrators of the IPPIS platform to urgently address the issue and fulfill the commitment made to refund the deducted amounts. They warned that continued silence and inaction could dampen staff morale and affect productivity.
Efforts to get an official response from FRCN management were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. However, insiders hinted that the matter had been escalated to the appropriate government authorities for resolution.
The controversy surrounding IPPIS deductions has been a recurring concern among federal workers, with many calling for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public sector payroll systems.
FRCN staff have now joined the growing list of public servants demanding prompt corrective measures, urging the government to prioritise workers’ welfare and restore confidence in the system.
